Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said the current trajectory of U.S.-Russia relations is positive, but cautioned against expecting any “immediate results” from ongoing talks between the two countries.
“Things are actually moving along very well,” Peskov told state media correspondent Pavel Zarubin, responding to a question about the state of negotiations and broader relations between Moscow and Washington.
Reviving ties “from almost zero is extremely difficult,” he said, adding that it requires “intense diplomatic and other efforts.” The process, according to Peskov, is built on “small steps aimed at restoring even a minimal atmosphere of mutual trust and gradually strengthening that trust.” He noted that diplomats, intelligence agencies, and presidential envoys from both sides are currently engaged in this work.
“All of this helps, of course,” he added. “But it’s simply unrealistic to expect any quick breakthroughs. The problems are too deep and have gone unresolved for too long.”
