Update: At approximately 8:40 a.m. Washington time, Donald Trump announced on social media that his call with Zelensky had concluded after about an hour. “Much of the discussion was based on the call made yesterday with President Putin in order to align both Russia and Ukraine in terms of their requests and needs,” he wrote, calling the conversation “very good.”

U.S. President Donald Trump is holding a phone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino announced.

“Happening Now — President Trump is in the Oval Office on a call with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine,” Scavino wrote on X.

The call follows Trump’s conversation a day earlier with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Afterward, the Kremlin said Putin had agreed to a “mutual 30-day suspension of strikes on energy infrastructure.” Putin also reportedly demanded a complete halt to military aid and intelligence sharing with Kyiv as a “key condition” for starting peace talks.

In a statement, the White House said that Trump and Putin spoke “about the need for peace and a ceasefire in the Ukraine war” and “agreed this conflict needs to end with a lasting peace.”

After the Trump-Putin call, Zelensky said that Ukraine would support a pause in strikes on energy infrastructure but that he was counting on his conversation with Trump to gain more details on the agreements with Russia.
