Russian forces launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine early on Wednesday, firing Iskander-M and S-300 missiles and deploying 145 Shahed-type drones, as well as decoy drones, according to Ukraine’s Air Force Command.

Ukrainian military officials reported that air defenses shot down 72 attack drones and decoys over the Kharkiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Vinnytsia, Kirovohrad, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, and Odesa regions.

In Sumy, a Russian drone struck the roof of the regional clinical hospital, shattering windows but causing no injuries, local authorities said. Another drone crashed onto the roof of the region’s Krasnopillia hospital, according to officials. No injuries were reported there either, and patients and staff were evacuated.

Also overnight, Ukrainian drones reportedly targeted an oil depot near the village of Kavkazskaya in Russia’s Krasnodar region. The strike damaged a pipeline, sparking a fire and halting operations at the facility. The regional emergency headquarters reported no casualties. As of 10:30 a.m. Moscow time, the fire had spread to 1,700 square meters (18,300 square feet).

Russia’s Defense Ministry said that air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 57 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 35 over the Kursk region, 13 over the Oryol region, and seven over the Sea of Azov.

Earlier on Tuesday evening, U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone call. Afterwards, the Kremlin announced that Putin had agreed to a 30-day halt on strikes against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure and had ordered the military to uphold the pause.

Commenting on the conversation, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kyiv would support the proposal to suspend attacks on energy facilities. “But it cannot be the case that Russia attacks our energy sector and we remain silent. We will respond,” he added.
