Chinese President Xi Jinping plans to visit Moscow on May 9, 2025, for Victory Day events marking the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory in World War II, Russia’s ambassador to China, Igor Morgulov, said in an interview with the state television channel Russia 24 on Monday.
Xi has accepted an invitation to attend the celebrations in Moscow, Morgulov said, and has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to China for a commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Japan’s defeat and the end of World War II.
Beijing has not yet commented on the visit.
Russia has invited “a large number of world leaders” to the May 9 commemoration, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. Among those expected to attend are Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Xi last visited Moscow in March 2023 for talks with Putin.
