Russian lawmakers have drafted legislation to expand military enlistment offices’ powers to conscript soldiers. The chairman of the State Duma’s Committee on Defense, Andrey Kartapolov, plans to introduce a bill that would allow the military to call up men who were overlooked for various reasons in past seasonal conscriptions, granting the state another 12 months to summon them. The initiative reportedly has the support of Russia’s government cabinet.

The news outlet iStories points out that Kartapolov’s new scheme would allow the military to conscript men even if they become seriously ill in the intervening time.
