Moscow bank employee steals $1.8 million from client’s safe deposit box

A bank employee in Moscow stole 180 million rubles ($1.8 million) from a client’s safe deposit box, according to Interior Ministry spokesperson Irina Volk.

The employee reportedly removed the cash from the bank in increments, converting the final 35 million rubles ($353,900) into cryptocurrency.

Authorities arrested the suspect at a Moscow airport, Volk wrote on her Telegram channel. A criminal case has been opened under an article addressing theft on an especially large scale. If convicted, the suspect could face up to 10 years in prison and a fine of up to 1 million rubles ($10,100). The suspect remains in custody.
