A Russian airstrike on industrial infrastructure in the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia on Wednesday killed 13 people, according to the region’s governor, Ivan Fedorov. Ukraine’s Prosecutor General reported that another 29 people were injured.
Update: Later on Wednesday, Ukraine’s State Emergency Service reported that the airstrike killed 13 people and injured 63 others.
While the exact target hasn’t been confirmed, photos and videos from the scene suggest the strike may have hit the main administrative building of the Motor Sich company.
Images shared by Fedorov show burning cars, a tram with shattered windows, and numerous injured people at the site.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Russia of using aerial bombs in the attack, “fully aware that ordinary civilians would suffer.” He offered condolences to the victims’ families and called for increased international pressure on Moscow.
“There must be pressure on Russia for its terror. Lives in Ukraine must be protected. Such a war can only be ended with a reliable peace achieved through strength,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram.
