Head of company responsible for border defenses in Russia’s Kursk region arrested on embezzlement charges
The head of a construction company tasked with building fortifications on the Russian border in the Kursk region has been arrested on charges of abuse of authority, state media reported on Friday.
According to TASS, Vladimir Lukin, the general director of the Kursk Region Development Corporation, is suspected of misappropriating over 173 million rubles (about $1.7 million) in budget funds.
Earlier this month, the company’s deputy general director, Igor Grabin, was arrested in connection with the same case. According to regional prosecutors, in 2023, Grabin signed a contract with a company for the construction of border fortifications and authorized payment for work that had already been completed and paid for.
