Moscow cancels New Year fireworks

Source: Meduza

Moscow will forgo fireworks during this year’s New Year celebrations, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said in a December 6 interview with RIA Novosti.

The city has skipped New Year fireworks since 2022, due to the ongoing war. In November of that year, Sobyanin noted that a poll showed city residents were opposed to fireworks and street concerts.

Despite this, Moscow has held fireworks displays each year from 2022 to 2024 to commemorate Victory Day on May 9.
