Biden administration preparing $725 million military aid package for Ukraine — Reuters
The Biden administration is preparing a $725 million weapons package for Ukraine, Reuters reported on Wednesday, citing two U.S. officials.
According to one of the sources, the administration plans to provide Kyiv with various anti-tank weapons from U.S. stockpiles, including landmines, drones, Stinger missiles, and ammunition for HIMARS missile systems. The package will also likely include cluster munitions.
Reuters notes that Washington has refrained from exporting landmines for decades, but that the mines being sent to Kyiv are equipped with a timed power system that functions only for a short period, ensuring they don’t remain an indefinite threat to civilians.
The White House could officially notify Congress about the aid package as soon as Monday, according to one of Reuters’ sources. The package’s contents may still change in the coming days before Biden signs it.
