Putin honors Chechen politician with another presidential award despite long history of dishonorable, even illegal, behavior
Vladimir Putin has awarded State Duma deputy and Chechen politician Adam Delimkhanov the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” IV Class for his supposed contributions to “the development of parliamentarism, active legislative work, and many years of dedicated service.”
Putin’s first deputy chief of staff, Sergey Kiriyenko, presented the award.
Delimkhanov has served in the State Duma since 2007, and he is a cousin and one of the closest allies of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. Delimkhanov and Kadyrov have received numerous awards from the Kremlin over the years despite their outright illegal actions and frequent transgressions of political decorum. For example, Delimkhanov’s golden pistol fell from his pocket during a fistfight on the Duma floor in 2013. More recently, in February 2022, he threatened to behead the relatives of former judge Saidi Yangulbaev.
