Local authorities have called on residents to evacuate the town of Grayvoron in Russia’s Belgorod region as it continues to come under rocket fire from across the Ukrainian border.

“I’m calling on everyone who remains in the district. The situation remains tense. I ask you to make the right decision and temporarily leave the territory of the municipal district,” Grayvoron Municipal District administration head Gennady Bondarev posted on Telegram.

According to Bondarev, Russia’s Yaroslavl district has agreed to take in evacuees from Grayvoron:

Anyone who is ready to leave, please write to me. We’re arranging your departure. We’re trying to deliver groceries to residents, but this depends on the operational situation. I strongly recommend not putting yourselves and your loved ones in danger.

Authorities in the Belgorod region have reported near-constant fire from pro-Ukraine forces in recent weeks. After Ukraine-aligned units attempted to break through the nearby state border last week, local residents began fleeing the town. On March 19, the regional authorities announced that they would relocate 9,000 children, including ones from the Grayvoron municipal district, to other parts of Russia.

On March 20, according to the Russian authorities, two Grayvoron residents were killed and two were injured as a result of rocket attacks.
