Railway bridge damaged by explosion in southwestern Russia

Update: Ukraine’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) has taken responsibility for the explosion. The agency said in a statement that the bridge was damaged by “blowing up its load-bearing structures” and that it was used to transport ammunition.

A railroad bridge over the Chapayevka River in Russia’s Samara region has been damaged by an explosion, multiple Russian Telegram channels and local news site 63.ru reported Monday morning.

According to the channel 112, the blast affected the bridge’s metal framework and guardrails. The channel Baza wrote that the structure’s support pillars were not harmed. Russian National Guard members and sappers are at work at the scene, according to the outlet 63.ru.

Three passenger trains coming from Moscow and one commuter train have been stopped due to the incident. 112 reported that there were no injuries and that the rails are still in place.
