More than 120 mourners arrested at gatherings across Russia honoring Navalny
Update: According to the latest information from OVD-Info, more than 128 people were arrested in 19 cities across Russia.
More than 56 people have been arrested at gatherings in memory of Alexey Navalny in 14 cities across Russia, reports the human rights advocacy group OVD-Info.
At least 14 people, including local deputy Anton Kartavin, were taken into a police van in Novosibirsk after laying flowers in memory of Navalny. In Yekaterinburg, 10 people were arrested.
Another 10 people were detained in the Voronezh region while en route to Navalny’s farewell in Moscow. All of them, except for the coordinator of the Voronezh office for politician Boris Nadezhdin, were soon released.
In Moscow, at least six people were arrested. After attending Navalny’s funeral, Andrey Morev, the deputy chairman of the Yabloko Party’s Moscow branch, was detained in the metro. He was released soon after. Journalist Vasily Polonsky was detained at the Borisovskoye Cemetery, where Navalny was buried.
Police also arrested people attending rallies in memory of Navalny in Nizhnevartovsk, Ulan-Ude, Vladikavkaz, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, and Zlatoust.
