Alexey Navalny’s associates are planning to hold a public memorial for the Russian opposition politician, who died in prison on February 16, according to his press secretary Kira Yarmysh.
“We’re looking for a hall to hold a public farewell to Alexey. Time: the end of this working week. If you have a suitable venue, please contact us,” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
On Saturday, Russian officials handed over Navalny’s body to his mother, Lyudmila Navalnaya. Earlier, Ivan Zhdanov, the director of Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation, said that investigators had set several conditions for Navalnaya to agree to in order for her son’s body to be released to her. They demanded that Navalny’s relatives and associates keep information about his funeral secret and that they refrain from holding a public farewell.
