Ilham Aliyev reelected to fifth term as president of Azerbaijan

Ilham Aliyev has been reelected for a fifth term as the president of Azerbaijan. The presidential elections took place on February 7.

As of the early hours of February 8, with 93 percent of the vote counted, Aliyev had secured 92.05 percent of the votes, according to Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission.

Aliyev’s victory was announced by the state news agency AZERTAC. He has already been congratulated by Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

Ilham Aliyev has been the president of Azerbaijan since October 2003.
