E.U. leaders agree on $54-billion aid package for Ukraine
The leaders of all 27 E.U. countries have agreed on a 50-billion-euro (more than $54-billion) aid package for Ukraine, European Council President Charles Michel announced on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday.
Michel wrote that the package would provide “long-term, predictable funding for Ukraine.”
According to Michel’s press secretary, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán agreed to approve the deal after meeting with the prime ministers of Italy, France, and Germany the day before. The E.U. planned to allocate the funds to Ukraine in December, but Orbán blocked the package.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky welcomed the E.U.’s decision, saying that the support would strengthen Ukraine’s “long-term economic and financial stability.”
