The average price for an economy class flight within Russia increased by 22.2 percent in 2023, reports RBC, citing data from Russia's Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat). In December, the average cost reached 7,600 rubles ($85) per 1,000 flight kilometers (621 flight miles).

RBC notes that this is the most significant increase since 2008, when average prices for the year grew by 30.9 percent. In 2022, the cost increased by 15.6 percent, and in 2021, by 5.97 percent, according to Rosstat data.

Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) told RBC that data from 2020–2022 is “not representative, given the varying levels of support for the industry during the pandemic.” At the same time, the FAS estimates that airline ticket prices in 2023 increased by no more than 10 percent from 2019. Russia’s Transport Ministry did not comment on this.
