Authorities in Russia’s Belgorod to install military-grade shelters, says governor
Authorities are planning to install additional shelters in public gathering spaces in the city of Belgorod in Russia, says Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.
On January 13, members of the local Russian National Guard tested “modular reinforced concrete structures with double reinforcement,” reported Gladkov. According to him, the Defense Ministry uses similar models to protect personnel.
“Our goal is to put up additional shelters in crowded areas: for example, at transport stops. In the event of a missile threat, such a module can be used along with existing shelters,” Gladkov said. “Of course, we hope they won’t be needed,” he added.
The Russian city of Belgorod, which is less than 20 miles from the Russia-Ukraine border, has faced near-constant missile attacks in recent weeks. City officials began reinforcing public transportation stops with sandbags and concrete in response to the attacks.
