Former Wagner Group mercenary arrested in St. Petersburg on suspicion of organizing murder
In St. Petersburg, Russia, former Wagner Group mercenary Alexander Tyutin has been arrested on suspicion of organizing a murder, report the outlet 47news and the Telegram channel Baza.
In 2021, Tyutin was sentenced to 23 years in prison for organizing multiple murders. However, in the summer of 2022, he was released after signing a contract with Wagner Group. After his contract ended, Tyutin and his wife flew to Turkey. About a year later, he returned to St. Petersburg where, according to 47news, he attempted to organize a new murder. Tyutin has reportedly already confessed.
After Tyutin’s contract expired, Wagner Group founder Yevgeny Prigozhin praised him, calling him “competent” and “worth several men,” reported 47news.
At the same time, Olga Romanova, the head of Russia Behind Bars, did not rule out the possibility that Tyutin was never on the front line. According to her, it’s widespread practice to secretly release prisoners who pay large bribes.
Russian media regularly report on crimes committed by people returning from the war. For example, at the end of September, a former Wagner Group mercenary doused his sister with gasoline and burned her alive. In October, police arrested another former mercenary on suspicion of murdering two people by setting their house on fire.
