Voters’ committee supports nominating Russian journalist Yekaterina Duntsova as presidential candidate
A voters’ committee supported the nomination of Russian journalist Yekaterina Duntsova as a presidential candidate, reports Telegram channel SOTAvision. At the meeting, 521 participants voted in favor of her nomination.
The group gathered at a conference center in Moscow. For security purposes, the event’s location was not revealed until just before it began. More than 700 people participated in the meeting, exceeding the required minimum of 500. A representative from Russia’s Central Election Commission was also present.
Independent outlet 7x7 wrote that two police officers came to the meeting, while the moderator asked the press “not to ask political questions.” According to the outlet Ostorozhno, Novosti, the electricity went off during the event.
The voters’ committee will now have to be registered with the Central Election Commission. If this step is successfully completed, then Duntsova has until January 25 to collect 300,000 signatures from residents of Russia’s regions for her nomination, and to have their authenticity verified.
Duntsova announced her plans to run for president on November 16. Her website says she supports “an end to the fighting, democratic reforms, and the release of political prisoners.” Soon after she announced her intention to run for office, she was summoned to the prosecutor’s office, where they inquired about her attitude toward the conflict in Ukraine.
