Zelensky replaces Ukraine’s Medical Forces commander, says ‘fundamentally new level of medicine’ needed
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has appointed Anatolii Kazmirchuk as the new commander of the Medical Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU), replacing former Medical Forces Commander Tetiana Ostashchenko. Previously, Kazmirchuk led the National Military Medical Clinical Center in Kyiv.
Zelensky called the appointment “an important personnel decision,” saying that “a fundamentally new level of medicine” is needed.
Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov wrote that the decision to replace Ostashchenko was “obvious to everyone who is fighting in the Ukrainian Defense Forces.”
Earlier this month, Ukrainska Pravda reported that Umerov was preparing to dismiss Ostashchenko following complaints from AFU paramedics and medical workers.
