The head of Russia’s Central Election Commission announced Thursday that elections in two Belgorod region municipalities that border Ukraine will not be held on the country’s unified voting day in September.

Citing the heightened alert levels in effect in the area, Pamfilova said that local elections in the town of Shebekino and the village of Zhuravlyovka will be “postponed.”

The authorities in the Belgorod region have regularly reported shelling and drone attacks against the parts of the region that border Ukraine in recent months.

Russia’s unified voting day is September 10. More than 4,000 elections are scheduled to be held at various levels throughout the country.
