Drone strikes Kurchatov, town near Kursk Nuclear Power Plant

Kursk region head Roman Starovoit said that overnight on September 1, a drone crashed into a “non-residential building” in Kurchatov, a town attached to the Kursk Nuclear Power Plant. The facade of the building suffered minor damage and no one was hurt, Starovoit said.

Initially, Starovoit wrote that there were two drones and a damaged residential building in Kurchatov, but later clarified that “the fall of the second UAV is not confirmed — the flight of the first drone was mistaken for another one.”

According to the station’s Telegram channel, the Kursk NPP, is operating in normal mode and background radiation is also normal.

Vyacheslav Gladkov, head of Belgorod Region, also announced the drone attack. According to him, the drone of the airplane type was shot down by air defense forces, no casualties or damage.

A drone was also shot down in the Moscow region near the city of Lyubertsy, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin wrote on Telegram. According to preliminary data, there were no casualties or destruction. “Thanks to the military for not letting them spoil the first day of school” — Sobyanin added.

In the morning, Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky airports limited service. According to Mash, a total of 38 flights were delayed, while 23 were canceled.
