A St. Petersburg court has sentenced Olga Smirnova, an activist from the group Peaceful Resistance, to six years in prison, according to the human rights project Network Freedoms.

Smirnova was convicted of “spreading disinformation about the Russian army out of political hatred” for online posts in which she referenced the Russian military’s destruction of Ukrainian cities and the victims of Russian shelling attacks, among other things. She will be prohibited from administering websites for an additional three years after her release from prison.

Smirnova pleaded not guilty and her lawyers plan to appeal the sentence.
