Andrey Novashov, first journalist to be convicted of spreading ‘disinformation’ about Russian army, sentenced to eight months of corrective labor
A court in Russia’s Kemerovo region has sentenced journalist Andrey Novashov to eight months of corrective labor for allegedly spreading “disinformation” about the Russia army, according to the Siberian news outlet Taiga.info.
Novashov was first charged after he made an anti-war post on social media in March 2022. He pleaded not guilty to the charges and intends to appeal his sentence.
Novashov was the first known journalist in Russia to be convicted on “disinformation” charges. As part of his sentence, he is banned from practicing journalism for one year.
