Russian Ministry of Defense: one Ukrainian missile and 42 UAVs downed overnight in Moscow-adjacent Kaluga region and in Crimea
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported that a Ukrainian S-200 missile was downed in Russia’s Moscow-adjacent Kaluga region the night of August 25.
According to the governor of Kaluga Vyacheslav Shapsha, air-defense systems were triggered at half-past-midnight local time. No one was injured in the incident, and local infrastructure remains intact, the official says.
Around 1 a.m., when social media posts about explosions in the Kaluga region started to appear, Moscow’s Vnukovo and Domodedovo airports paused all air traffic. They have since returned to regular operations.
Early this morning, Russia’s Defense Ministry also announced that a Ukrainian drone strike had been deflected by the Russian military in the annexed Crimea.
According to the ministry, air-defense systems on the peninsula detected 42 fixed-wing UAVs. Nine of them were subsequently shot down, and the remaining 33 were disabled by radio-magnetic suppression systems, crashing before they reached their targets.
The Russian-appointed governor of Sevastopol Mikhail Razvozhayev also reports that several drones were destroyed overnight over the Black Sea near Chersonesus. According to the official, urban infrastructure was not affected.
