A man detonated a training grenade near the Russian capital’s Moscow City commercial district on Thursday, multiple Telegram channels reported.
According to the press service of Moscow’s Central Administrative District, the perpetrator broke the window of a parked car on the city’s Krasnogvardeysky Avenue and threw an unidentified object into the vehicle’s interior.
The Telegram channel Baza reported that the man was trying to steal a Jaguar parked near Moscow City. Threatening the driver with a pistol, he demanded the person exit the vehicle before getting in the driver’s seat himself and trying to start the engine. When he was unable to, he reportedly got out of the car, threw the grenade inside, and fled. The channel Shot reported that the weapon was an airsoft grenade.
Police apprehended the attacker soon after and confiscated an air pistol from him, according to the authorities. His motive is unknown.
