Russian investigators reportedly believe bridge blast may have been result of ‘double terrorist attack’ involving jet skis

One of the lines of inquiry that Russian investigators are pursuing in the criminal case over the July 17 explosion on the Crimean Bridge is that Ukraine carried out a “double terrorist attack” involving modified jet skis, the Russian newspaper Kommersant reported on Tuesday.

This theory reportedly holds that remotely controlled jet skis carrying explosives were sent to the bridge and were met with fire by the servicemen guarding the structure. At that point, the investigators allege, “under the cover” of the jet skis, “more advanced combat devices, rather than improvised ones,” were used to strike the bridge.

On July 17, the pro-Kremlin Telegram channel Mash posted a video of “one of the Ukrainian military’s aquatic drones,” which resembles a jet ski and, according to the Telegram channel, is rigged with explosives. According to Mash, the “drone” was destroyed in Sevastopol on July 16, but a similar one could have been used to attack the Crimean Bridge.

Ruslan Leviev, the founder of the investigative news outlet Conflict Intelligence Team, said Monday that he doubts a modified jet ski would be capable of carrying out the bridge attack.
