The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case into the attack by masked assailants on Novaya Gazeta journalist Elena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov in Chechnya on Tuesday.
The case was opened under the Russian Criminal Code’s articles on the intentional infliction of moderate and minor bodily harm, which provide for sentences of up to five and two years in prison, respectively.
