FT: Top Russian general Sergey Surovikin has been detained

Senior Russian general Sergey Surovikin has been detained, the Financial Times reported on Thursday, citing knowledgable sources.

According to the newspaper, it remains unclear whether Surovikin is being charged as an accomplice in Yevgeny Prigozhin’s failed uprising or is simply being interrogated.

The report confirms earlier reporting from The Moscow Times and concludes days of speculation about the general’s whereabouts.

Earlier on Thursday, Putin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists that he couldn’t answer their questions about whether Surovikin had been arrested and that they should ask the Defense Ministry.
