St. Petersburg publication Fontanka reports that Sergey Goryachev, Chief of Staff of Russia’s 35th Combined Arms Army, has been buried in the city’s historic Serafimovskoe cemetery.

A reader sent Fontanka photos from the major general’s grave. The publication reports that Goryachev’s funeral was held on June 18.

The stone marking Goryachev’s grave gives the date of his death as June 12, 2023.

Russian war blogger Yury Kotenok reported Goryachev’s death on the night of June 13. He said the general was killed during heavy fighting in the Vremivka wedge region. Later, Kotenok’s Telegram post about Goryachev was deleted.

In a June 16 report, the U.K. Defense Ministry wrote that Major General Sergey Goryachev was “almost certainly killed in a strike on a command post.”

Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov did not comment on reports of Goryachev’s death, adding that the matter was a question for the Russian Defense Ministry.
