Popular Russian TV series disappears from streaming service after its lead actress speaks out against war
“Olga,” a popular Russian TV series whose last season was released in May, has been removed from the site of the channel that aired it, as well as from the channel’s streaming service, just weeks after the show’s star, actress Yana Troyanova, spoke out against the invasion of Ukraine. The show is considered to be one of the network’s most successful shows.
On May 29, Russian YouTuber Yury Dud released an interview with Troyanova in which she called Russia a “country of occupiers,” expressed support for jailed opposition politician Alexey Navalny, and said that she left Russia because it was the “last right” that Putin left her. She also revealed that one of the conditions under which “Olga’s” producers agreed to continue making the show was that she not speak out about politics while production was ongoing.
