Ukraine’s armed forces have seized the initiative in the vicinity of Bakhmut and are now on the offensive, said Ukraine’s Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Maliar on Telegram.

According to Maliar, the AFU advanced by 200–1,100 meters on various segments of the Bakhmut frontline on Tuesday, June 6. The deputy minister also says that Russia’s regular army deployed in the area has switched to defensive tactics in an effort to maintain their positions, and is now drawing reserves to Bakhmut.

Russia’s Defense Ministry has confirmed that the Ukrainian army attempted to rupture its defense in the district. According to the Russian side, it has been able to deflect Ukrainian assaults on the Western outskirts of Bakhmut and by the villages of Yahidne, Dubo-Vasylivka, Andriivka, Orikhovo-Vasylivka, and Klishchiivka.

“The adversary did not achieve the goal of the offensive; wedging into our defense positions has not been permitted,” said the Russian military ministry.

Earlier, on June 5, Ukraine’s Defense Ministry reported that Ukrainian positions had advanced “along a fairly wide segment,” by up to 1,600 meters (practically a mile) in some areas. At that time, Ukraine announced it was on the offensive “along some directions.”
