Computer scientist in Yaroslavl region reportedly put under house arrest for sending money to Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation

A court in Russia’s Yaroslavl region has put a local resident under house arrest on suspicion that he “financed extremist activities.”

According to Russian media, the suspect is a man named Sergey Abramov, who serves as an associate member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and holds a doctorate degree in physics and mathematics. The local news outlet YarNews reported that Abramov was put under house arrest on April 12.

Citing a source, the Russian newspaper Kommersant reported that Abramov is suspected of sending money to an organization that is banned in Russia.

According to the independent news outlet TV Rain, the organization in question is Alexey Navalny’s Anti-Corruption Foundation.
