Russia moves to formally denounce Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe

Source: Meduza

Vladimir Putin has issued a decree appointing a presidential representative to take part in parliamentary proceedings on the issue of Russia officially denouncing the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE).

The CFE was signed in Paris in 1990 by 22 countries. Russia suspended its participation in the treaty in 2007. In March 2015, the Russian authorities announced they were ending their participation in the CFE’s Joint Consultative Group, saying the step completed the suspension announced eight years earlier, though the country officially remained a party to the treaty.
