Russian authorities begin issuing military summonses threatening 'restrictive measures' in case of no-show
The Russian authorities have begun sending out military summonses that explicitly threaten their recipients with “restrictive measures,” Grigory Sverdlin, the head of the anti-war initiative Go by the Forest, reported on Wednesday.
Sverdlin posted a photo showing a summons that was sent to a St. Petersburg resident. “Attention! If you fail to report to a military enlistment office within the time period indicated, restrictive measures will be imposed against you,” the letter reads.
On April 14, Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing military summonses to be sent out electronically and restricting the rights of draft evaders. Among other things, the changes prevent summons recipients from leaving Russia until they report to a conscription office.
