Yandex launches beta-version of Shedevrum, an AI app that generates ‘artwork’

The IT giant Yandex has launched a beta-version of Shedevrum, an AI-powered app that generates images using a neural network method.

The app can process queries in Russian and English, including cues about art styles (“photorealism,” for example) and names of famous artists, whose manner it imitates.

Shedevrum is now available in the Apple App Store and on Google Play. According to the description, artificial intelligence offers four different images in response to a user query, letting the user pick the best one. Selected images appear in the app’s dedicated newsfeed.

Yandex says the app was initially trained on 240 million images with text descriptions. It is currently being trained on 500 million additional examples.

Yandex’s head of machine learning Alexey Gusakov says that Shedevrum’s full version will generate banners, illustrations, online storefront images and more. Here are some examples of Shedevrum’s “artwork” so far.
