Althingi, the supreme national parliament of Iceland, has recognized Holodomor as a genocide of the Ukrainian people.

Iceland’s Foreign Minister Thórdís Kolbrún Reykfjörd Gylfadóttir tweeted: “Today, Althingi recognized the man-made famine of the winter of 1932–1933 as genocide perpetrated by the totalitarian government in Moscow against the people of Ukraine.”

Volodymyr Zelensky has thanked Iceland for “for honoring the memory of millions of Ukrainians killed by the Moscow regime.” “It is a clear signal,” he added, “that such crimes do not go unpunished and do not have a statute of limitations.”

Zelensky’s Chief of Staff Andriy Yermak welcomed this news on Telegram, noting that “a battle for justice” takes place on the “historical front.” “Russians cannot rub out the evidence of their crimes,” he concluded.
