Russia’s Defense Ministry reports its air defense prevented ‘massive drone strike’ in Crimea

In its Wednesday briefing, Russia’s Defense Ministry announced that an “attempted massive drone strike” had been prevented by Russia’s air defense forces in the annexed Crimea.

Six Ukrainian UAVs have allegedly been shot down by the Russian air defense systems, and four more were neutralized by radio-electronic means, states the ministry, adding that no casualties or damage have occurred.

Ukrainian sources report that explosions were heard in several Crimean locations on the night of March 1.

Meduza cannot verify these statements at the moment of this writing.

On February 27–28, a series of isolated drone strikes occurred in several regions of Russia, including the greater Moscow, Adygea, and Krasnodar Krai.

Kyiv denies any connection to these attacks, insisting that Ukraine does not conduct any strikes on Russia’s territory, and that the incidents must signal internal tensions within Russia itself.
