A Tula court has sentenced a Ukrainian citizen to 16 years in prison on espionage charges, Russian state media reported on Wednesday.

According to case materials, the unnamed defendant gathered information constituting state secrets between January 2020 and his arrest in August 2021 and intended to transmit it to a foreign state.

The Russian FSB reported that the suspect was acting on behalf of Ukrainian intelligence agencies to obtain information about Russian weapons that are under development, and that he planned to recruit employees of Russian defense companies to assist him.
