Ukrainian court sentences Kherson woman to 5 years for helping organize pro-Russian sham ‘referendum’

Source: Meduza

A Ukrainian court has issued the first verdict in a wartime collaboration case, sentencing a woman from the Kherson region to five years in prison for helping organize a “referendum on joining Russia.”

The evidence had been collected by the Security Service of Ukraine, who publicized the trial.

According to the case materials, the defendant — a resident of Novooleksandrivka (a village in the Beryslav district) — compiled voter registration lists and encouraged locals to come to the polling stations to vote for joining Russia. Following the liberation of Novooleksandrivka, she was arrested by the Ukrainian military.

“Referendums on joining Russia” were staged by the Kremlin in the occupied Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia regions of Ukraine last September. Following the sham proceedings, Moscow moved to annex those regions, now claiming they’re part of Russia.
