Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin visits troops ‘defending’ Russia in Ukraine
Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin has published a Telegram post about his visit to the Russian army’s “line of defense” in Ukraine:
We’re helping set up our guys on the line of defense, with anti-tank trenches, ditches, pillboxes, and dugouts. We’re setting up generators, stoves, and lighting. We’re building medical stations,
he wrote.
The mayor also wrote that he “spent some time” with servicemen mobilized in Moscow. He did not specify which Ukrainian region or location he had been visiting.
Sergey Sobyanin made every effort to distance himself from the “special military operation” since the beginning of the invasion. Meduza has written about his attempts to placate Muscovites by minimizing the impact of the war on city life.
Last summer, Sobyanin visited Luhansk, signing an agreement on future cooperation with the self-proclaimed “LNR.” Later, the region was formally annexed by Russia.
Moscow has become an official “patron” of Donetsk and Luhansk, which means that it will have to commit both money and staff to rebuilding those Ukrainian cities.
