Russian Defense Ministry: Troops are ‘maneuvering to prepared positions’ — away from right-bank Kherson

In its November 10 briefing, the Russian Defense Ministry reported the retreat of the Russian army from the right-bank part of the Kherson region west of the Dnipro River. The ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov put it in the following words:

On the Mykolaiv and Kryvyi Rih direction, Russian army units are maneuvering to prepared positions on the left bank of the Dnieper, in strict compliance with the approved plan.

A map presented in the course of the briefing showed the Russian troops leaving the southwestern part of the Kherson region near Olexandrivka.

On November 9, Army General Sergey Surovikin, commander of the Russian forces involved in the invasion, reported to Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu that he considered it “futile” to continue defending the Russian army’s right-bank positions.

Shoigu agreed, ordering that troops be redeployed to the left bank. This amounts to the Russian surrender of Kherson, and its withdrawal from a large part of the region.
