The embezzlement charges against Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) rector Vladimir Mau have been dropped, RBK reported on Friday, citing two sources close to the school.
According to one source, the case was terminated “in the last few days” — on October 12 or 13. Alexey Dudnik, Mau’s lawyer, declined to comment on the reports.
“He’s behaving confidently — he goes to the academy every day,” one of the sources told RBK. Interfax reported in August that Mau had returned to work.
Sources who spoke to RIA Novosti and TASS confirmed that the charges had been dropped.
Thinking inside the box
Increasingly desperate for manpower in recent months, Russian authorities have started tapping a “resource” the country has plenty of: prisoners. If you think that sounds like it would have obvious drawbacks, you’re right.
