“The strike’s aim has been reached. All targeted objects have been attained,” reported the Russian Defense Ministry on today’s missile strikes across Ukraine.

“Today, the Russian armed forces dealt a massive long-range precision-guided weapon strike on objects and systems of military coordination, communications, and of the Ukrainian energy complex,” said Igor Konashenkov, the ministry’s representative, at a briefing today.

Earlier today, at the emergency meeting with members of Russia’s Security Council, President Vladimir Putin said that today’s missile strikes were Russia’s response to the October 8 explosion of the Crimean Bridge. Putin attributed the explosion to the work of Ukraine’s security service, calling it “an act of terrorism aimed at the destruction of critical civilian infrastructure in Russia.” He added:

The Kyiv regime’s actions place it on par with international terrorist formations, and with the most odious of groups. It is impossible to leave such crimes without an answer.

This morning, at the suggestion of the Defense Ministry and according to the plans of the Russian General Staff, a massive strike was launched with long-range precision-guided air, sea, and land-based weapons, against Ukrainian energy, military command, and communications facilities. In the event of continued attempts to carry out terrorist attacks on our territory, Russia’s response will be harsh, and its scale will match the level of threat to the Russian Federation.

The Ukrainian General Staff reports that on October 10, Russian forces fired more than 80 missiles into Ukrainian cities. Half of those missiles were shot down by the air-defense systems. According to the Ukrainian State Emergencies Service, nine civilians were killed and 36 were wounded as a result of today’s missile attacks.
