Pussy Riot activist Veronika Nikulshina jailed for 15 days, suspected of plans to disrupt Euro 2020
On June 17, Moscow’s Dorogomilovsky District Court jailed Pussy Riot activist Veronika Nikulshina for 15 days after finding her guilty of disobeying a police officer, reports OVD-Info (lawyer Sergey Telnov from OVD-Info represented Nikhulshina in court).
Nikulshina was arrested near her Moscow home on June 16. According to the police report, law enforcement had information that the activist intended to disrupt public order and disrupt the events of the Euro 2020 soccer championship in St. Petersburg.
Earlier, on June 12, Nikulshina was detained near Moscow’s Lubyanka Square while recording an interview. She was written up for petty hooliganism and smoking in an area where it’s prohibited.
Among other things, Veronika Nikulshina is known for taking part in an on-field protest called “Policeman Enters the Game” at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium during the 2018 World Cup final. Along with activists Pyotr Verzilov, Olga Pakhtusova, and Olga Kuracheva, Nikulshina ran on the field dressed in a police uniform during the match. The activists were fined and jailed.
In early May, Nikulshina was detained on charges of attempting to disrupt a parade rehearsal in Moscow and jailed for five days. The activist claimed that she only planned to film a documentary.
