Yulia Navalnaya has reportedly flown to Germany once again
Yulia Navalnaya, the wife of imprisoned opposition politician Alexey Navalny, has reportedly left Russia once again. An informed source told Interfax that Navalnaya flew to Germany on Wednesday, March 24.
Interfax didn’t offer any other details about Navalnaya’s alleged trip.
Asked about her client’s whereabouts, Navalnaya’s lawyer Svetlana Davydova told RBC, “I have no information about Yulia Navalnaya’s movements, and we do not comment.”
Navalnaya’s last trip to Germany was first reported by Interfax on February 10. The German outlet Der Spiegel wrote that she had flown to Frankfurt for “private visit.” Navalnaya returned to Russia on February 22.
On January 17, Alexey Navalny and his wife Yulia Navalnaya returned to Russia from Germany, where they spent five months while Navalny recovered from chemical nerve agent poisoning following an apparent attempt on his life in August 2020.
Navalny was taken into custody immediately upon returning to Russia. On February 2, a Moscow district court incarcerated Navalny under a reinstated sentence for violating his probation in the Yves Rocher case while in Germany. On February 20, the Moscow City Court reduced his sentence slightly, to 2.5 years in prison.
Navalny is now serving out his sentence in Penal Colony No. 2 (IK-2) in the city of Pokrov in the Vladimir Region. On March 24, his lawyers reported that his health has deteriorated while in custody. According to his attorney Olga Mikhailova, Navalny has been experiencing numbness in his leg, as well as back pain. The next day, the prison authorities announced that a medical examination found Navalny’s state of health “stable and satisfactory.”
