Putin and Medvedev announce United Russia's victory

Russian President Vladimir Putin called United Russia's results in Sunday's Duma elections "good". "Things is difficult, hard, and people stilled voted for United Russia," said Putin.

According to Putin, the party "performs the function for which it was created. It is a powerful regulator of the situation in the country."

Prime Minister and Chairman of the United Russia Dmitry Medvedev said: "the result is very good!" And said that the work of United Russia was "for the good of the country."

United Russia, according to preliminary data, won about 45 percent of the vote. In addition, at least 79 of the 225 single-member districts will also be held by United Russia candidates (data calculated only for 89 districts).

Preliminary results show that only four political parties have won seats in the Duma, amongst them United Russia, the Liberal Democratic Party (with 18.38 percent of the vote), the Communist Party (with 17.25 percent of the vote), and A Fair Russia (with 6.25 percent). 

The new State Duma will pass laws until 2021.
