Russian state media publishes photos from newly recaptured areas in the Kursk region
Russian troops are rapidly advancing in the Kursk region, parts of which have been under Ukrainian control since August 2024. On March 13, Russia’s Defense Ministry officially announced it had taken control of Sudzha — the only Ukrainian-controlled city on Russian territory. A day earlier, Oleksandr Syrskyi, Ukraine’s top commander, said that intense fighting was still ongoing on the city’s outskirts. Russian state media outlets have published images of war-torn settlements in the Kursk region that are now back under Russian control. Meduza shares some of these images.
